Liminal: A Sequence of Cloud Photographs

Liminal is a series of photograph that seek to encapsulate the ethereal essence of cloud formations at the precise moment they occupy the threshold between existence and dissipation. In this visual exploration, the ever-shifting and formless clouds become a metaphor for life's transient and uncertain nature. The interplay of light and shadow within the billowing masses hints at the delicate balance between presence and absence, as if the clouds momentarily pause in their journey across the sky to whisper secrets of transition. The images serve as a reminder that within the impermanence of the world, there exists a beauty that resides in the fleeting and the mysterious, inviting viewers to contemplate the profound and evanescent moments that define our existence.

Through clouds [I wanted] to put down my philosophy of life—to show that my photographs were not due to subject matter—not to special trees, or faces, or interiors, to special privileges, clouds were there for everyone—no tax as yet on them—free.

– Alfred Steiglitz, c.1923
